about

This material was recorded in the autumn of 2018 in an old country house, in the process of debugging the program code. I decided to make a generative sequencer for the MFB-522 drum machine. The reason for this idea was the fundamental reluctance to come up with repetitive rhythms.

The performance of the device was tested during the game with the use of other strange homemade musical instruments. Instead of speakers and projector, an old TV was used. The audio cable connected to the video input caused the sound to be displayed on the screen. Controlled feedback was provided by a microphone from an old handset. Rhythmic fractions, clicks, and clangs issued a solenoid from the doorbell, screwed to an incomprehensible instrument similar to Sarangi. Scrape metal sound was made "Skovorodriver" - servomotor, mounted on a tin pan. Koma Elektronik Field Kit was used to control motors and was used instead of a mixer. There were also MFB Kraftzwerg & Urzwerg, T. C. Electronic M300 effects processor and Tver Horn. Recording was made on the microphones of Tascam DR-44WL recorder.

Each version of the program contained a number of errors, which led to sudden changes of rhythm. Later, when the code was debugged and the sequencer behavior became predictable, such inconsistencies did not work. The machine was only a machine - it also had to be controlled somehow.
